The project Open Data in Trentino at the EIP-SCC Action Clusters Meeting

On November 22, the offices of the representation of the Province in Brussels hosted the Action Clusters meeting of the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities. During the morning, there was a presentation of the project Open Data in Trentino, within which data standardisation is seen as the precondition to the development of smart cities and communities.

The European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities (EIP-SCC) is an action supported by the European Commission bringing together cities, industry, credit system, SMEs and other players within Smart Cities and Communities.

What is particularly important, concerning what is being done in Trentino, is the attention given in this action to the issue of standards as infrastructures enabling the development of data-driven solutions for the smart management of territories, be it cities or places for the communities.

The approach to open data stresses the need to go beyond and accelerate the experimental phase towards an increase of the value of data by means of careful actions on quality, interoperability and sustainability. This strategy is well known and put into practice by our project.

For Trentino, this meeting was an important confirmation that what has been done over the years and what is indicated in the guidelines approved last year by the Giunta is aligned to what is currently being discussed and done at a European level in view of the Digital Single Market.

In this perspective, the Province and the Consorzio dei Comuni Trentini are now taking part in a pilot project within the ISA2 programm aimed at aligning the data being gathered from each and every website editor in the local system to the European vocabularies.
